Two Churches

126/365

Location: Delft, Netherlands

This was the view from my house in Delft towards the city centre. The church on the left is the Oude Kerk (Old Church) and on the right is the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church). The Oude Kerk opened in 1350 and is the burial site of the famous Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer (Girl with a Pearl Earring). The church can be seen tilting to one side due to uneven ground around its west foundations towards the canal. The Nieuwe Kerk opened in 1496 and stands across from Delft City Hall at the Markt (Delft Market Square).
