Delft House II

111/365

Location: Delft, Netherlands

This detail of a Dutch house shows the hoist beam that houses the pulley traditionally used to hoist goods to upper floors. Since the stairs in most
Dutch houses are extremely steep and narrow, these hoist systems are still used for moving large items such as furniture into the houses. This is also
why the centre openings on the front of the houses open up like doors.
