Cube House

192/365

Location: Rotterdam, Netherlands

Rotterdam, NL is known for its unusual and experimental architecture. It’s city centre area differs from many other Dutch cities, which sport more traditional Dutch architecture, since it was extensively bombed during WWII. The Cube Houses (Kubuswoningen) is an innovative housing development (also built in the city of Helmond) by architect Piet Blom, which explored high density housing.

Similar examples of this architectural innovation can also be seen in Toronto as a cluster of three cubes on Sumach Street. The property on which the cubes sit has been sold for development, so there are hopes the cubes can be moved elsewhere and preserved.
